Conjuring
[Repeated from Friday 2.30pm.] Conjuring is a monthly radio show and live music series presented by British-Nigerian artist Tony Njoku. Conjuring events bring together leading experimental musicians for collaborative, improvised performances at Club Cheek in Brixton. The project foregrounds musical dialogue, community building and spiritual expression. The radio show acts as a public archive, with excerpts of live recordings from the latest Conjuring event alongside participating artists in conversation - exploring themes such as community, creativity, improvisation and experimental music.

Episode 3: Newcomers to the district, Lindy and Dunan have dinner at the local pub, where they meet a selection of friendly - and thirsty - locals. These new "friends" try to cadge free drinks, until they are chased away by the sinister Tom.

Davide Tidoni: Collected Recordings
[Repeated from Wednesday 4.10pm.] Davide Tidoni is an artist and researcher interested in the relational dimension of listening, and in the physical experience of sound. He works with live performance, intervention, audio recording, video and guided listening, and published a sound ethnography on the ultras group BRESCIA 1911. 'Collected Recordings' is a series of works selected by Tidoni from his extensive back catalogue. Produced by Milo Thesiger-Meacham. In Episode 3, Davide presents five works: Canta Che Non Passa (2018); Magnifying My Sphere Of Power (2013); Single Strokes (2015); My Loss Will Be Your Gain (2016).
'Canta Che Non Passa' documents part of the repertoire of an informal choir called "Canta Che Non Passa" - a spontaneous group of middle age/old people that constituted a part of the NO TAV movement in Valsusa, northern Italy. The choir’s repertoire consists mainly of protest songs adapted from preexisting musical sources, with lyrics that have been created from scratch.
'Forget The Theater! Go To The Stadium’ documents all the times the italian word “dai” (in english “c’mon”) was used by the leaders of the ultras group BRESCIA 1911 during Brescia vs. Catania, 2015. The word “dai” is commonly used as an exhortation to urge the group to participate in the chanting.
In 'Magnifying My Sphere Of Power' Davide sings and plays drums along with a selection of his favourite hardcore punk songs. The project amplifies the power of music as an emotional inciter, an agitator, a physical energy and a self-presence.
In 'Single Strokes' Davide plays the snare-drum with a pair of microphones. The recordings explore the physical properties of the microphone and present a more intuitive and analog way of approaching audio technology. By giving a body to the microphone the work reflects on the physical affection of material culture and how this sensual attraction subverts the conventional modes of consuming technology.
The material for 'My Loss Will Be Your Gain' comes from a tape cassette found by Davide in a derelict house. It consists of a series of recording-tests performed by the woman who used to live in the house. The title of the piece refers to the accidental discovery of the tape after years of abandonment and neglect.

Gordon Rudd is an engineer who contributed to the creation of the groundbreaking Linn LM-1 Drum Computer in 1980, before moving on to Oberheim Electronics as primary engineer/designer of the classic Oberheim DMX drum machine. Featuring sampled real drum sounds, individual tuning controls for each voice, and programmable rolls and timing variations designed to emulate live drumming, the DMX became hugely influential among hip-hop and synth-pop artists, and had a major impact on the musical landscape of the 1980s. Gordon later went on to develop the equally influential Linn 9000 drum machine/sequencer. In this exclusive interview, synthesiser enthusiast John Croudy joins Gordon in conversation, discussing the early years of drum machines and digital sampling. Produced by John Croudy.
