About Resonance

Resonance is a groundbreaking 24/7 radio station which broadcasts on 104.4 FM to central London, DAB to Greater London, nationally on Radioplayer and live streamed to the rest of the world.

Realised by a dedicated community of volunteer engineers and programme-makers, Resonance offers over 105 creative broadcast series every week featuring local and international artists, makers and experts.

Resonance seeks to discover, encourage and support a diverse range of artistic voices through radio - from first-timers to seasoned broadcasters. Our ambition is to provide a broadcast platform through which as many people as possible can exercise “the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community and to enjoy the arts” (Article 27, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights).

Our role extends to support for the rights of free speech; the rights to freely receive and impart information; and, in these days of algorithms curating and pushing us to mainstream commercial content, we offer protection to freedom of thought by ceding as much editorial control as current broadcast regulations allow to our contributors.

Kindly supported by the generous donations of our listeners and by key partners including Arts Council England and The Wire, we collaborate widely with visionary individuals and organisations including Mixcloud, Radiophrenia, and Radia.

K Biswas (Chair)

Our Chair, K Biswas, is a writer and critic who has been Chair since 2018. A former programme-maker, he is also the Editor of Representology: The Journal of Media and Diversity, co-Chair of the charity Heard, and a board member of the Doc Society.

Ilan Aarons (Treasurer)

Our Treasurer, Ilan Aarons, is currently a Finance Director with Pfizer. He brings extensive financial expertise across a variety of industries, in global roles based in the UK, Germany and Switzerland, including Treasury experience with NAAFI, a non-profit organisation supporting the British military and their families. Ilan is also a musician, having performed as a guitarist with Polaris and Solanki alongside other artists in the DIY community and has contributed to fan-based film production projects including Mad Heidi. He’s married to Helen and has two children.

John Appleby

Now retired, John was the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Nuffield Trust health think tank, where he is currently a Senior Associate. He was previously Chief Economist at the King’s Fund, and senior lecturer at Birmingham University and the University of East Anglia. He started his career as a health economist in the NHS. John is currently a visiting professor at City University and Imperial College London and a board member of the NHS Race and Health Observatory.

Where do I send press releases, promos etc?

Our core audience of half a million listeners wants to hear from you. Email info@resonancefm.com with any press releases. Post us your promos - don't forget to indicate which presenter it is for.

How can I get a show on Resonance?

Email ideas@resonancefm.com with a brief pitch, including any time-critical information. We'll respond as soon as we can. We are always keen to receive new and original ideas for radio broadcasts, including the Clear Spot access slot.

How do I contact a show host?

Go to the programmes directory where you will find details of all our current presenters. Email contact@resonancefm.com if you want to send a programme maker anything, be it criticism, queries, recommendations or your own mp3.

Can I volunteer or do a work placement at Resonance?
