Arty Facts
Arty Facts with Master J is a show about working in the arts. Today: Master J is joined by musical theatre actor Karen Holmes and The Viagra Fools lead singer Steve e Blunder. We eavesdrop on the very first, slightly wobbly rehearsals of Steve on guitar and Karen on vocals, after Master J handed them a stack of songs for the 2021 musical, It’s a Boy. These recordings capture the songs’ first ever attempts at being played live, complete with missed cues and wrong chords, with each rehearsal clip immediately followed by the studio recording Karen laid down straight afterwards. We begin with the final song of the session, Carrying the One, and finish at the beginning with Welcome to the Show. Somewhere in the middle is Kill Them All. If you enjoy watching painters wash their brushes or jockeys grooming their horses, then this is a show you might tolerate. For more information visit Master J on Facebook. [Repeats Friday 3.30pm.]
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Calling All Pensioners
[Repeated from Monday 1pm.] Magazine programme with Tim Hamilton, addressing issues which affect pensioners across London. This week: the National Pensioners Convention (NPC) celebrates campaigns fought and won, with some being the toughest battles for older people in 2025. The organisation highlights that the Chancellor’s tax changes in the recent Budget are set to impact older people for years to come, in particular older people with health conditions and older renters remain far more likely to be stuck in cold, damp housing. The NPC expresses its gratitude for those who have aided their campaigning - their greatest strength is their hard-working regional branches. Our musical tribute is to Chris Rea, aged 74, who was an English rock and blues singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboard player and record producer active from the early ‘70s. Produced by Deptford Action Group for the Elderly.
