Clear Spot

[Repeated from Wednesday 8pm.] Javier Chandia (Magik Circles blog and Gate Kicks) interviews the German improvised music pioneer Alexander von Schlippenbach. Influenced by Cecil Taylor and Ornette Coleman, Schlippenbach started his music career playing jazz with Manfred Schoof and Gunter Hampel but at the same time collaborating with the avant-garde classical composer Bern Alois Zimmermann. In 1966 Schlippenbach composed Globe Unity for the Berlin Jazz Days Festival, which resulted in the creation of the Globe Unity Orchestra which has been reuniting outstanding jazz improvisers such as Peter Brotzmann, Albert Mangeldorff, Evan Parker, Anthony Braxton, Hank Bennink and Derek Bailey, among many others for almost 60 years.
