[Repeated from Wednesday 12pm.] Music from the catalogues of Far Side Music, the world's primary source for East Asian sounds, presented by Paul Fisher. This week: Paul began presenting a weekly radio show 25 years ago today, on 6 April 1997 called Far East Radio (Kyokuto Rajio), broadcast on FM Cocolo in the Kansai region of Japan, with musician Kazufumi 'Miya' Miyazawa of the group The Boom. Produced by artist management company Five-D, a scene developed around the programme, playing other artists managed by Five-D and like-minded musicians and artists, and the staff started playing music at live events that became known as Tuk Tuk Cafe. Rock music with a punk attitude, melodic but not mainstream, sometimes with roots, especially from Okinawa, and occasionally with dub or hip-hop influences. Today's show features some of these artists, with a few live recordings too. Listening Across Disciplines

[Repeated from Tuesday 6.30pm.] Auditory Practices across Arts, Science and Technology. This episode - Listening Protocols - focuses on methods and approaches to listening via the format of a listening protocol. In the first half, we hear from Syma Tariq, a PhD researcher at CRiSAP, UAL, whose work explores the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan, and focuses on forms of archive, testimony and eventness through an examination of listening practices. The second half features Peter Cusack whose work explores the intersection of listening, field recording and the environment, often focusing on the soundscapes of environmental damage. Both Syma and Peter share their views on protocols and methods in their respective research; and read their own listening protocols, which they made as part of a Listening Across Disciplines workshop.
