20 years ago in June and July 1998, the first manifestation of Resonance FM took place on 107.3FM, broadcasting from the Royal Festival Hall. Instigated and curated by Phil England and Ed Baxter for London Musicians' Collective, this Resonance was a month long “art gallery of the airwaves”. Selected one-of programmes from 2018, offering diverse and unpredictable content in the way only Resonance delivers. Today: Irruptive Chora. A discussion led by Irruptive Chora, a collective run by curator Agata Kik and artist Ania Mokrzycka (aka Pel Bonheur), who presented sonic and linguistic reminiscences from and around Unsound Festival, Krakow 2018. With invited Wroclaw-based radio host and DJ Marta Malinowska aka Young Majli they discuss ideas around collectivity, multidisciplinarity, the Krakow music scene, radio shows, exhibitions and share personal thoughts about Unsound Festival. With One VoiceHighlight

Two 30 minute monodramas for radio, first broadcast June 2017. First ‘Greetings From Here,’ made and performed by Pauline Gloss. American sound artist Gloss’s journey through trans-identity, mental illness, heartbreak and a city, constructed as nine audio postcards sent to friends. Behind each postcard looms the silent presence of Gloss’ correspondents who are named but never given voice, and offer brief glimpses into Gloss’ shifting emotional space. Then at 3.30pm, ‘Swimming in Air’ is a one-sided telephone conversation between the writer/performer Jim Read and two of his (silent) friends. Jim has Parkinson’s disease and the story tells of the travails of living with a disability. Written and performed by Jim Read. Directed by Willi Richards. Produced by Roger James Elsgood at Art and Adventure Ltd.

In Place 3: Solid Breakfasts and Gloomy Sundays, Smoky Towns and Winding Roads, Green Fields and Red Pillar-Boxes. In Place explores how places make us feel, and how in turn we are able to speak back to them through our words and music. Colin Riley explores the idea of a homeland; how we view our culture, our traditions, and our sense of being British. Dipping between a kaleidoscope of musical sounds, including tracks from the album ‘In Place’ he discusses this theme in conversation with former Young Poet Laureate for London Selina Nwulu and the BBC’s poet in residence Daljit Nagra. The Bad Vibes Club (artists Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau with Sophie Mallett) explore the act of gleaning as a historical right to subsist on common land, as a creative practice of selection, as mimicry and stealing - including examples of gleaning from the animal world. Commissioned by g39, The Gleaning is part of a series of events and artistic responses to James Richard’s exhibition ‘Migratory Motor Complex’ at Chapter Gallery, Cardiff.
