Micro Clear Spot

New short works for radio. This week: 'The Mean of Men' is a collection of 64 short, fictitious scenes written by Paul Becker and Adam Phillips, published by CIRCA Projects in November 2016. Amassed over an email exchange between 2012 and 2016, each text was written in response to an arbitrary, single-word title suggested by the other writer. Rather than an assertion of masculinity, the title of this collection comes from an idea of male averageness or normativity: for the writers, an interestingly redundant notion. Functioning as an alternative to a conventional book launch, 'The Mean of Men' radio broadcast attempts to create a divergent, anomalous container for the texts mixing spoken word with disparate sound effects. The broadcast features the voices of Giles Bailey, Paul Becker, Lara Cadey, Alex Charrington, Tess Denman-Cleaver, Kathryn Elkin, Susie Green, Will Holder, Catrin Huber, Ant Macari, Sally Madge, Rene McBrearty, Conal McStravick, Francesco Pedraglio, Heather Phillipson, Adam Phillips, Kelly Richardson and Tim Shaw.
