A gem from our extensive archives. Tonight: an episode of The Dark End of The Street from November 2007. Cathi Unsworth explores Derek Raymond's novel, 'He Died With His Eyes Open.' Having spent years working variously as a mini-cab driver in London and a labourer in rural France, Raymond was challenged by a neighbour that he would never write a book again. The result, the first novel to be published under the non de plume Derek Raymond, appeared in 1984. Raymond’s friend and literary executor John Williams explains the very personal true story behind this groundbreaking work.
