Gwaith Sŵn's Sonic Darts

[Repeated from Monday 10pm.] Sound-art and transmission-art delivered monthly by London sound art collective Gwaith Sŵn. This month: After the Rave. Following our last show which covered the connections between drum & bass, jungle and computer game music, After the Rave traces connections between ambient music, chillout rooms and the quiet spaces of computer games. Moving through work by Autechre, The Orb, Lustmord and Susumu Yokota, alongside music from Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil and Ico, we explore how sound makes room for recovery, attention and retreat. The journey leads from shared spaces beside the dance floor to bedrooms, underwater worlds and temporary refuges inside horror games. Repeated melodies and unfolding textures give virtual environments a sense of permanence, allowing players to linger, explore or breathe. A save room becomes a shelter; a familiar loop becomes a remembered place. Further information can be found at sonicdartsshow.medium.com.

Micro Clear Spot

This episode is a percussive collage from two family learning programmes in London libraries, celebrating the 2026 National Year of Reading and its "Read to the Beat" Summer Reading Challenge. First, we hear Rough Music Rhyme Time, where children made drums from paper cups, paper straws and balloons, inspired by library rhyme times; E. P. Thompson's essay Rough Music Reconsidered; Jack Zipes on community, storytelling and fairy tales; and the Bonfire Society parades of Lewes. We hear what happened across dozens of libraries, from the tentative experiments at Wallington to the cacophony of Forest Gate. Next, What Did the Hippie Have in His Bag? A tactile family workshop based on the Cornershop song and picture book. Families learned about vinyl records and made zines, paper record players and poetry records. Finally, the children take over, mostly on Theremin, and their improvisations play us out. Featuring music from Ronald Amanze, Paul Hitchmough and Cornershop.
