12:30am - 12:00pm

Previously On Resonance FM

We've had a broadband outage in central London meaning all the sophisticated mechanisms by which we bring you our regular Resonance programming are suspended. Instead this morning we offer a selection of intriguing archival broadcasts - both long form, "slow radio" before the fact, and as usual ahead of the curve.
First, from 29 April 2010, the six hour "Cycles (2)" by Juan Suanca. It explores the particular properties of sound and its ability to stimulate our perception of time. Microtonal exploration and long sustained sine tones with very slow and subtle transformations are presented, aiming to explore the possibilities of sound related to gradual processes and the concept of duration. The impact that radio as a medium has on society, psychological time and its elasticity, are focus areas of this work in progress.
Then at 6.30am, our "Marathon Mixdown," a five and a half hour exploration of the London Marathon from multiple perspectives (engineered by 14 people en route) including on the road sounds of Susan Cooper and Terry Saunders. First broadcast live on 25 April 2010.
That was evidently an interesting month.
