A Baedeker tour of international musical curiosities from the 78rpm era with Oliver Carter-Wakefield. Haymes was one of a handful of arrangers including Don Redman, Fletcher Henderson and Gene Gifford who in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s helped to develop the musical language that would come to define the swing era. Although Haymes employed excellent musicians (including Bud Freeman) and recorded extensively his unfortunate propensity for selling orchestras, most notably to Tommy Dorsey in 1935, prevented him for achieving the lasting recognition he rightly deserved.
