One of the prizes for a Resonance fund raising auction was to have a piano tuned by Art Terry, presenter of Is Black Music on Resonance104.4fm. I don’t have a piano but placed a winning bid and asked Art if I could film him tuning a piano which he agreed to. This is the soundtrack of that video film recorded on a mini dv camera superimposed on a recording made at Marcus Campbell Art Books 43 Holland Street, London SE1, of a creaking floor and demolition of the building opposite.
A look at Googoosh, ‘the daughter of Iran’ introducing her to those who’ve never heard of her, celebrating her for those who love her, and talking with the documentary maker who made the only film about her. Farhad Zamani managed to do this while Googoosh was still in Iran and still banned from singing or appearing in public. The film was released at the very moment the government were thinking of letting her leave in 2000, a landmark date. This intensely psychological film contains rare footage and interviews with those around Googoosh, building up an in-depth picture of someone who though alive, does not appear. At the same time Zamani uses experimental editing techniques to relay the tension and underline certain issues, all the while doing as Googoosh had done for many years: speaking through that which cannot be spoken.

Strip! (Clear Spot) - The strange world of Steve Ditko
Originally broadcast at 8pm, 14/08/08 on Resonance 104.4 FM
James DC hosts a 1 hour special round-table discussion about the recent book Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko, released by Fantagraphics books. James is in discussion with comic book artists and Ditko experts Steve Marchant, Mark Stafford and the author of the book, Blake Bell.
Ditko is best known as the co-creator, with Stan Lee, of Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, and other classic Marvel and DC characters. But, in the context of Steve Ditko’s 50-year career in comics, his creative involvement with Spider-Man is merely the tip of the iceberg. Strange & Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko is a lavish coffee table art book tracing Ditko’s life and career, his unparalleled stylistic innovations, and his strict adherence to his Ayn Rand inspired philosophical principles, along with illustrations - some rarely printed - of some of the obscure artwork from Ditko’s ouevre.

Having a wicked time here. Weather is mostly hot and the pool is always full Haven’t done much exploring although I’m determined to have a look around before we leave. You won’t believe how cheap the booze is though, I’ve bought out the local shop’s supply of paracetamol!!! LOL.
The tan is coming on pretty well although I fell asleep after a few too many sambukas at lunch time and burnt my front, never mind. Going out to another club tonight so won’t notice the sunburn after a couple of hours If you know what I mean.
