September 17th, 2008 · No Comments

American guitarist and singer-songwriter Bob Rafkin visits the Resonance studio at 11 am on Thursday 18th September for a specially scheduled discussion with Ed Baxter. He’s played with the Everly Brothers, Phil Ochs and more. Here he sings some of his own songs and talks about America, guitar tuning, and more.

Elias Krantz - Island Rock

Multi Instrumentalist Elias Krantz released his sublime debut Island Rock on Airwaves Music last year. The album features asymmetrical melodies and rhythms that, when combined, create a sound consisting of polar opposites – While it is dreamy, meditative and contemplative it is at the same time groovy as hell. A wide range of instruments co-exist in perfect harmony while adhering to the principle of “less is more”.  In this, the third Introduction in the Airwaves series, he discusses various related and non related subjects with Gavin Maycroft and it will also feature the first airing of some new work in progress. http://www.myspace.com/eliaskrantz

September 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

It’s (nearly) the second tuesday of the month at 7.30pm, so it must be time for Hectic Peelers, Resonance FM / Electric Sheep Magazine’s monthly free film screening at The Roxy Bar and Screen, Borough High Street…
Raindance shorts DVDThis month we are very excited to present a special event in collaboration with Raindance Film Festival. We’ll be screening the best short films of last year’s festival to mark the release of the 15th Raindance Shorts DVD, which was voted DVD of the week in Time Out, beating Persepolis and Happy-Go-Lucky!
Electric Sheep Logo The must-see programme includes The Girls, in which two young girls play cruel games with their father, the brilliant, if chilling Cherries, which imagines the consequences of the Iraq War on a London school, and The Demonology of Desire, which looks at the wish by a twisted young girl for unconditional love. We will be joined by members of the Raindance organisation as well as by some of the filmmakers, who will be happy to discuss their work with the audience. The evening is hosted by Virginie Sélavy (I’m ready for my Close-up / Strip!) and is FREE!

A rapscallion visits

September 8th, 2008 · 2 Comments

DR_ROM_6

Bow’s finest, Dizzee Rascal, pays a visit to Resonance FM this Tuesday. Dizzee will be in conversation with Ben Thompson host of The London Ear. The Rascal’s latest single Dance Wiv Me was at number one for a month in July so, hopefully, given the necrotic state of the music industry he’ll be able to chuck at least £1:75 at the Resonance FM biscuit fund. After all, we do have a proclivity for Hob Nobs and we like ‘em by the bucket load and that’s not cheap.

Dizzee Rascal, The London Ear - Tuesday, September 9th, from 2:00 to 3:00pm.
