This evening’s Clear Spot is a sibilant sotto voce affair produced by @autodespair, the programme looks at ASMR, or Auto Sensory Meridian Response. AMSR is a term coined to describe the sensation of “tingling” around the head/scalp and other parts of the body. This sensation may be triggered through various stimuli, ASMR-research.org give the list of common triggers as: exposure to slow, accented, or unique speech patterns; haircuts, or other tactile and intimate encounter. Predominantly through YouTube, an ASMR Community has grown, videos created by the community demonstrate whispering, infra-sonic sounds such as tapping, crinkling, brushing. Videos which are not purpose made for ASMR are also adopted by the community, a popular example would be the TV series The Joy of Painting, hosted by Bob Ross. This Clear Spot then is a playful exploration of an ASMR facility, using passages culled from Adolfo Bioy Cesares’ seminal novel The Invention of Morel as a travel guide. Contributors to the show include: Nicholas Tufnell, Steven Novella, InNegative, Rob Horning, GentleWhispering (Maria), WhisperingSprite. Tune in and tingle from 8:00pm.
