Bonanza & Son at 4pm today with Martyn Myers features banjo player/singer Dana Immanuel live in the studio. He says: “I had a discussion with Dana Immanuel recently just prior to a Jim White gig in Wetherspoons. We were in Wetherspoons, not the Jim White gig I should hasten to add… That was at the more salubrious Union Chapel. Anyhow, Dana turned to me and asked, ‘How would you describe my music?’ ‘Well,’ I said, ‘Gothic-Country comes to mind but in the true sense of Gothic, so more Edgar Allen Poe than Marilyn Manson’… I also said that a journalist friend of mine described it as ‘Country-Noir’. I think that whole conversation says more about what you can expect from today’s session than the paragraph of pretentious, music jouranalist blurb I initially intended to write. So, there we have it then, a female Jim White, half cut on Bourbon in Wetherspoon’s with a Banjo and a dirty attitude, praying at the altar of primal Rock ’N’ Roll in its infancy. Sounds good, dunnit?”
