After the repeat of the penultimate episode of The Disabled List live form the Paralympics (final show at 8pm tonight), from noon today there’s another chance to hear our long-form broadcast Intimacy & Distance, involving live rock climbing, commentary, wind and bird noise and minimal instrumental music. It’s an elaborate ensmeble piece but the dominant elements are the landscape of the Penon d”Ifach, Alicante, Spain, where climbers Gaz Parry and Kate Mills make a difficult ascent amidst clattering gulls; and the voice of veteran climber and writer Jim Perrin, in a studio in the Pyrenees. Recorded by Chris Weaver and Bob Drake, mixed live by Nick Hamilton, remixed by Michael Sinden, conceived and directed by Ed Baxter and Chris Weaver, with music by Max O’Brien and the Resonance Radio Orchestra. At four and a half hours, it’s a matter of relaxing into this broadcast and letting it wash over you.
