FUA day 10: Matthew Herbert to Morricone and more

The Free University of the Airwaves: Sonic Arts concludes this afternoon. This second sequence of lectures comprises a collection of presentations made at the London College of Communication’s Sound Arts and Design course, programmed by Resonance104.4fm’s Ed Baxter. At 12 noon, composer and conceptualist Jennifer Walshe discusses her many and varied compositions, including the fictional Irish sound-art movement Grúpat. At 1:30pm, Matthew Herbert talks about his far-reaching compositional methods, with reference to One Pig. This is closely folowed by a discussion of Spaghetti Western soundtracks and more by Sir Christopher Frayling at 2:30pm. And finally at 4:30pm, drummer and lyricist Chris Cutler discusses his work with particular reference to the use of the studio and the extension of musical instruments through effects and amplification.
