The Free University of the Airwaves: Sonic Arts continues this afternoon. The first part comprises a collection of lectures and seminars recorded at the Supersonix Conference held between 20 and 23 of June 2012, part of the Exhibition Road Cultural Group Project. At noon, a debate about Sound Arts practice versus Sound Arts Research presented by members of CRiSaP, the Centre for Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice at the London College of Communication: Cathy Lane, Angus Carlyle, John Wynne, Thomas Gardner, Holly Ingleton and Aura Satz. Then at 1.45pm, Florian Grond, Axel Volmar, Andi Schoon and Florian Dombois discuss the History of Sonification. At 3.25pm, another panel debate: Non-Ambient Ambients, Trophism, Dislocation and Chatter in Aesthetic Uses of Noise with Cristina Iuli, Seth Morton, Judith Roof and Derek Woods. Finally, at 5pm, sound, noise and history are dissected by Cristoph Brunner, Michael Gallagher and Derek Hales. These recordings were made on the 22nd and 23rd of June, at the Goethe Institute, Science Museum and Natural History Museum. Filler material: Francis Picabia’s La Nourrice Americaine (Fast Version); Alvin Lucier’s Bird and Person Dyning; Resonance Radio Orchestra performing Chris Weaver’s Utility Frequency; and Ed Baxter’s five minute Sketch for the Death of Kodak.
