August 21st, 2012 · No Comments

The Free University of the Airwaves: Sonic Arts continues this afternoon. It’s a collection of lectures and seminars recorded at the Supersonix Conference held between 20 and 23 of June 2012, part of the Exhibition Road Cultural Group Project. Today at noon, Professor Sophie Scott from the Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London asks “What’s in a voice?” in a discussion with actor Duncan Wisbey and beatboxer Patrick Hirst. That is followed at 1.15pm by The Wire Panel, chaired by Tony Herrington and featuring David Toop, Philip Clark, Kaffe Matthews and Irene Revell. Then at 3pm, Joeri Bruyninckx, Stefan Krebs and Melissa Van Drie expand on the theme of Sonic Skills: Listening to Birds, Human Bodies and Automobiles. Finally at 4.45pm Louis Niebur, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Nevada, talks about the sound works of Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. These recordings were made on 21 and 22 June, at the Royal Geographical Society, French Institute, Science Museum and Natural History Museum. Our filler material between today’s lectures is provided by Fast Forward and Nicolas Collins.
