Today’s guest on African Essence at 5pm is Ebo Taylor, now in his late 70s, an originator of contemporary Ghanaian composed music, combining Akan roots and highlife with Jazz and even classical elements. He has a new album out on Strut Records called Appia Kwa Bridge. DJ Debbie met him at WOMAD last year and at last African Essence can broadcast the interview. Taylor gained international hip hop props when Usher’s producers sampled his track Heaven a couple of years ago. Keeping the Ghanaian link, the show also features the Sesa Wa Suban Afrakan Storytelling Festival: Griot Chinere will talk about the festival, organised by Shanti-Chi.
