Jonas Mekas was driving force behind The New American Cinema Group, editor of Film Culture, founder of the New York Filmmakers’ Co-operative, co-founder of Anthology Film Archives and the New York Cinematheque, prolific filmmaker, polemicist for independent cinema in Movie Journal in The Village Voice.
