EDIBLE LANDSCAPES

From Monday the 25th to Friday the 29th of August, Resonance FM traverses the globe in pursuit of digestible sound. Edible Landscapes is a long form radio experiment lasting approximately five days in duration. It is an extremely subjective but, nonetheless, gentle stab at a qualitative auditory assessment of what cultures in the North Western hemisphere of the globe might be listening to as part of their daily grind in the built environment.

Beside sound recordings made whilst rambling around London there are recordings made in the cities of Athens, Vienna, Napoli, Paris, Bremmen, Oslo. There are also explorations of rural noise recorded in The Forest Of Dean, sheperds and priests on the hill sides of Romania, a morning stroll in Llangollen, the southern Italian coast, and Norwegian Fjords. Further, there is much from the world of interiors. Pubs, council flats and apartments in south Wales, north London, Vienna and Italy. Viennese cafes, Gloucester cathedral, book shops, supermarkets, flea markets and meat markets. Cars, tubes, metro’s, trams, ferris wheel’s, trains, Swiss paddle steamers, the British Library,a drain and the interior of a radio studio.

Edible Landscapes resists the pressure of taxonomy. So religious architecture rubs shoulders with shopping centers and domestic interiors and so on.

Edible Landscapes is a collaborative project produced by Mark Aitken, Nick Hamilton, Coraline Janvier, Frances Morgan, Maria Papadomanolaki, Mark Pilkington, Simon Russell, Cyrill Schlapfer, Simon Tyszko, Craig Vear, Martin Williams, Tom Wallace. The series producer is Richard Thomas.

Edible Landscapes: Monday the 25th to Friday the 29th of August, broadcasting 24 hours per day on Resonance 104.4FM.

Heard the Res104.4FM broadcast on Monday 30th Aug 2010. Excellent! A phenomenal cornucopia of hardcore durational real time soundscapes, phonographic odds and ‘freestyle’ music. Loved it.

    How can I contribute?
