On the eve of his return to the UK we will be re-broadcasting a two part interview with poet Martín Espada first broadcast in late 2006. Amongst the subjects of discussion –not to mention poetic reflection- are: his Puerto Rican ancestry; his experiences as a tenant lawyer; the ‘lost’ Chicano novelist Oscar Zeta Acosta –better known to many as Hunter S Thompson’s sidekick in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas; the experiences in Chile that led to his recent collection The Republic of Poetry and the ongoing Iraq war. With an array of music and historical recordings from Walt Whitman to Mumia Abu-Jamal, this is an opportunity to get up to speed with the work of this singular voice prior to his speaking tour in mid-July. Tune in on Monday the 30th of June and Tuesday the 1st of July at 11AM
