Brent Amaker & The Rodeo

“Sightings of black-clad cowboys will be common on April 7th and 8th as the
Rodeo spend a couple days performing live and appearing in a Bonanza Radio show special.

Seattle-based cowboy Country band Brent Amaker and the Rodeo are bringing their stark, outlaw, Johnny Cash-inspired, rowdy, rodeo show to Resonance FM with further live dates presented by Bonanza at the ‘High Chaparral’ club night at Powers Acoustic Room on Tuesday April 8th.

It’s hard to imagine a lot of subtlety from a band with songs like “I Guess You Wanna Die” and “Sissy New Age Cowboy” But Brent Amaker and the Rodeo’s music and lyrics walk the line between simplicity and depth, irony and honesty. This is a fancy way of saying that these good old boys will have you crying in your beer and laughing out loud; pumping your fist and scratching your head. And for a band that has recorded both of their albums live on ancient, analogue tape recorders, they’ve done very well with music videos and making their music available on the internet. If you’ve come looking for answers you might be disappointed but if you come looking for a good time, you’re on
the right trail. Yee-haw”.

As posted to the message board for Resonance FM, I am writing to complain about your inclusion of Bob Dean — who calls himself “Bob Dobbs” — on your “Out to Lunch” show at 11:00 PM tonight.

Essentially, my complaint, along with the others who have written, stems from the fact that Dean is an impostor who has spent 25 years pretending he “inspired” the Church of the SubGenius, when in fact he had nothing whatsoever to do with it. He is a kook who spouts outlandish tales about himself in order to satisfy his own ego…but he is so boring, the only way he can get attention for himself is to associate himself with the Church of the SubGenius and pretend he is J.R. “Bob” Dobbs, the leader and founder of the Church. If he called himself Bob Dean (or “Bob Marshall,” which was the previous nom de guerre he used when he had a fringe talk show on Canadian radio in the late 1980s), no one would pay any attention to him. This includes you, no doubt: he used the name “Bob Dobbs” to make you think he is affiliated with the Church of the SubGenius.

My Web page about him ( http://www.modemac.com/wiki/Bob_Dean ) summarizes his attempts to swindle people into thinking he is “Bob Dobbs.” Don’t be fooled, and don’t give him the attention he so desperately seeks.

Rather than letting him waste your listeners’ time, I encourage you to contact Reverend Ivan Stang, the business manager for the Church of the SubGenius. He can easily be reached at his Cleveland, Ohio address using the Church’s business phone number: 1-216-320-9528. Reverend Stang’s email address is stang@subgenius.com. I am certain you will receive a prompt reply when you contact him, even on short notice.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Modmac, you should leave this comment in the forums - OutToLunch reads the Resonance FM forum. Speaking on behalf of nobody in particular, I agree that Reverend Ivan Stang is the supreme authority concerning matters that pertain to SubGenius. I’m not sure who this impostor actually is, however if it’s not SubGenius approved then I want absolutely nothing to do with it.
